THE COVER
The cover of the book started life on a school exercise book, the first few pages of which actually contained notes on Mechanical Metallurgy. It just happend to be the only thing at hand when I decided to start writing the story.
The original draft of the book filled three such exercise books. I later hand copied the whole lot into a hard backed notebook.
When it finally got typed I bound it and used lettraset to put a fancy title on the cover. It was starting to take shape.
The first real cover was done by the publishers. I suppose it wasn't bad except for the fact that it had a submarine in it. This was unfortunate as the actual story was about as far from a submarine as you could get.
I decided to have a go myself, but I gave up fairly quickly.
There were 2 other preliminary covers but for one reason or another they never made it. Unfortunately, I can't show them. Finally Marcos Huerta Carpizo came to the rescue with this image. When I saw it I knew it was the one.

The publishers took it and played around with and came up with the final cover
